I have an E330 TD (210) estate - and I am a cheapskate!
When I bought the car at 3-years old the back box was hanging down to the offside becuase the suspending bracket had corroded part-way through: the dealer replaced the back box with a new one.
Four years later the very same thing happened with this new back box - suspending bracket to the offside corroded through. I had someone tack weld it back on and this has lasted for almost 18 months.
Now the repair has given up the ghost: there is so much corrosion on the bracket there is nothing to weld to. The whole rear section of the exhaust looks absolutely fine - apart from this damned hanger.
I am planning to replace probably with the Eberspacher part from ECP, but am loathe to becuase the exhaust itself appears to have lots of life in it.
Has anyone experienced the same problem and come up with an innovative solution to buy another couple of years out of their back box?
thanks
Andrew
