E350 Manual gear selection

Hi. I am thinking of buying a used E350 coupe (2014-16). I drove a 2014 and found that the manual overide gear change kept reverting to auto,
and understand that some cars can be locked into manual. Does anyone know if this facility is available on the E350 2014 -2016?
I would be grateful for any info on this and any advice regarding this model.

Hello and welcome

They do revert to auto if left for a period of time. You can just pull one of the paddles to upshift or downshift and it will go back to manual. Unless you’re setting a hot lap around a racetrack you’re better off in auto.

My ML has an "off road pack" which includes a M (for manual) & it will stay in manual if pressed. It's been pressed about twice in 3 years.

Once to switch it on… And once to switch it back off…

I suspect that it may have a gearbox switch allowing the selection of S - Sport, E - Economy and M- manual. You'll find that using the paddles in any mode other than M effectively acts as an upper gear limit and will time out. M acts as a manual, flappy paddle gearbox, but is reset on ignition off.
