hi,
the mercedes logo/reversing camera thing for manually opening the rear boot has developed a problem, in that when i open it it feels like theres something not right, it even sounds odd, squeaky when opening, like something is stuck, i can't see anything and i can't see how i can even get in deeper to have a proper look,
i squirted some oil in on both hinges to see would it help, it didn't

it opens/closes the boot as expected but definitely didn't sound (or feel) like this a month ago, so i fear something has broken or got stuck behind the assembly and it's grating it every time i open/close it

do any of you know of problems with these boot lids/camera covers and how do I go about dealing with it ?

cheers
niall

At a guess Nial I think it’s boot trim out to take a look from the inside,

so today i washed the car and opened the boot lid at an angle and directed the hose in there, i mean at the top section of the circular mercedes logo when the boot is open via this 'handle', it seems to have solved the problem, whatever dirt, rock, or whatever was in there is now gone and it's acting as it did before,

phew !

I was thinking build up of dirt / road filth..... pushing water at it under pressure doesn't sound a great idea.

careful washing with a sponge and car wash bubble bath and maybe lubricate with silicon spray when its dry

it was just water from a garden hose so no major pressure, but i'm happy, the problem is gone and it was annoying i can tell you,

there was no visible dirt to be honest, clean as a whistle, but obviously something or some dirt was stuck behind where i could visibly see,

i will squirt some silicon spray in tomorrow when it's dry.

I've not seen on a Mercedes. So you're saying the camera is out of sight and in reverse pops out?

VW have had this for some time, seems a great idea, mine gets dirty so fast, or in the rain has drops on it, till 50% visibility is normal... I tend to wipe it clean every time before I start the car (or its mostly unusable).

Funny old world. I've just been reading car magazines where they are complaining about issues that have been there for 12 to 15 years as if they just discovered it. I was going to write in and suggest the training at car jurno school needs a refresh. How can a spotty 23 year old not have been given info on

1) dirty rear cameras being a nuisance (so report which do and which don't, not that its a nuisance we all know that)
2) IR tinted glass stops the phone working properly (suddenly moaning on VWs waze doesn't work so "he's been using the inbuilt Nav and found it works rather well").

Incredible... how about some useful advice about driving cars we might buy. I'm fed up reading about toys for footballers, every mag every month, 5 or 6 tests of 65k to 380k cars I wouldn't touch if I had a spare 10 million to waste. Never once see anything about how good the door mirrors work, if the lumbar adjustment is in the right place or specifics about how well the radar cruise behaves on focus or an Kia eNero.

The W213 came with pop down reversing camera, always switched it on when getting the car washed so it went away clean :D

On mine, the Star flips up to reveal the camera when I select reverse or the 360°:Camera but I have a separate boot release above the number plate. Certainly keeps the camera much cleaner because I’m forever manually cleaning the one on Mrs L's Mini which is always exposed to the elements.

Sadly, that seems to be the case for journalists and their editors in many subjects who seem to think that stating the blinding obvious makes a good story. Or perhaps it’s only “obvious” to those of us who have been around a bit longer?
