May be a bit soon, but does anyone have real world experience of the E400d for fuel economy? Got an E220d at the moment and get around 47mpg on my daily commute (33 miles each way). Have been offered a really good deal on a 400d, but not sure how much more it will cost in fuel.

I know this pales into insignificance compared to the depreciation, but still want to go in with my eyes open.

I can't help with that , but all things being equal , how does the actual mpg your are getting on the 220 differ from the cars published figures . This should carry across to the 400 in the same way ?

What year is your 220d? As that is pretty low for what I was getting from mine.

Look at how many miles you’re doing per year and base it on 10mpg lower and see how your numbers look

Yes, that was my fallback plan.

2016 (W213). It is a bit low, but I had another 220d estate when mine was in for servicing and it was only about 5% more. For the journey I do, it feels about right - quite a lot of cross country with brake and accelerate. On a good motorway run I get nearer 55 mpg

That is astonishing, never ever had that sort of return on anything that I have ever had. Even my Granddaughter with her Citroen C1 doesn't come close to that and she doesn't drive quickly at all. Did you knock it out of gear going down hill and get a tow up hill ?? ;)

The 9g box coasts like a manual knocked out of gear. I had the cruise set at 68 and don’t brake (even for UFO’s).
It could easily beat my 799cc CDI Smart on fuel economy...
Most amazing engine and gearbox combo I’ve had.

Just looked up the engine spec on the 400d and pleased to see the inline 6 is back with twin turbo it will be interesting to hear your thoughts on it in due course. A lot of the current E range are 4 matics so it’s difficult to forecast fuel consumption but it won’t be as good as the 220d with two extra cylinders to feed and 4 wheel drive my guesstimate would be 40-45mpg on a good run and 30-35 urban

An old B-Class.
If you are buying an E400, why do you need to worry about fuel economy?:)
