I would hazard a guess its the valve block because he said 'all of the valves have been replaced'.

He's left me a little envelope with the invoice in but I doubt it will be for all the work so I guess I'll never know.

What a baptism of fire you have had with this car! Hopefully you are at the end of all the c##p now and can just get on and enjoy the car!

It happens though doesn't it mate.

Better that it happened as it has than the gearbox just being fecked and me footing the bill.

The garages basic assessment was that the water did too much damage from the rad failure.......the poor old supplier are carrying the can for their negligent advice to fit the wrong rad but ultimately I think most of the damage had already been done by the sounds of it.

Definitely.

From the most automotively anxious week to a well sorted V8 for a total of £6125 and no future glycol problem to worry about (unless I'm very unlucky) I really cant complaint.

I have been very, very luck here though.......this could realistically have been me sticking a 2.5k bill if not for the bad advice of the rad supplier. Probably did me a favour in the long run as a got a gearbox overhaul for free!

Perfect solution to a broken merc..........the least reliable car ever manufactured.

Time to dice with the car Gods!

Oh indeed.

Another call to my 'mercedes specialist' tomorrow methinks.

Fixed and chopped in for the merc I'm afraid. Don't think I'll ever be able to trust it moving forward.........running perfectly and then total gearbox death is too dicey for me.
