First problem with the E63.
Started fine this morning and did a couple of errands. The car was started 4 times in total without a problem.
Just went to pop out again and the ignition lights turn on, but the engine won't turn over at all. Not even slowly.
Put the multimeter on the batteries and the main battery is reading 12.0v and the aux battery 13.3v
I have the main battery on charge with a 6amp charger and will see what happens in an hour.
Normally, just connecting the charger (on my previous E55) and there was enough power to turn the engine over. Not this time.

Any thoughts? Its so tight inside the engine bay I'm going to be lucky to even see the alternator and starter motor to check the connections.

I have MB FSH. Does that qualify a Mobilo visit?

I'd want a capacitance check on the state of health of the battery. My daughters Golf battery appeared fine and started the car after charging, same thing as you, was as dead as door nail after being parked a couple of hours, completely flat battery and no measurable drain. New battery cured problem. Was not expecting battery to fail, when weather was warm rather than cold.

A Mobilio callout should at least get Star on it for you at the roadside and you can decide form there

Definitely call them out Roger, that's what they're there for.

I only ever had the one issue with my W212 (before I started messing with it) and that too was a flat battery, though caused by a power steering module apparently. Fixed with a software update and a battery boost and all done on my drive. I was offered a couple of options on the initial phone call; recovery to MB, a non-MB breakdown service, or an MB specialised service which was the one I opted for. It took a few hours longer but the other options would not have done it as quickly in the end...

Cheers all

RAC due in 30 minutes. Mobilo would have sent them anyway.
I fancy a new battery is on the cards.

Just too late to read your message Dave.
This is a first for me in 50 yrs of driving. A call to a rescue service.

If it is, I wouldn’t take the one the RAC man is likely to want to sell you.

My eldest has my Smart, 13 weeks of no use and battery dead. RAC started it for him and I found a Varta at ECP for £60 for him. RAC has one for £120...

After running it for 40 minutes the original 10 year old battery starts the car perfectly...

I’m still going to fit the new battery for him though.

Solved

Mobilo turned up as RAC are busy. Got a really experienced guy who checked everything including replacing the starter relay battery condition etc. He used a wire to bypass the relay and the car started.

I then thought to mention I had an aftermarket immobiliser fitted, so with the ignition on I went through the procedure to release the immobiliser and it started on the key as it should.

Battery tested under load and its just a bit flat (not surprising) so its going on the Ctek later.

So the immobiliser wasn't releasing the starter motor for some reason. Now I know, I can overcome that, and its a relief to know all is well with the car.

Top marks to Mobilo too. Well worth keeping.

Incidentally, Tayna sell a Varta G14 AGM stop start battery for around £180 delivered.
MB OEM battery is £140 but you have to fit it yourself.
It will be an OEM battery when the time comes.
