I have read conflicting notes on exactly when the ATF is due to be changed on a W212 E63 with 7g+ transmission.(722.
I've read, once at 75k miles and once at 31k miles /3 years.
Entering the car details into the Mercedes ESS, this is what is printed. The same info as the ESS is also printed in the service booklet, which is what I believe to be correct.

Service 20 - Once at 31,000 miles/3 years
Automatic transmission: Carry out oil and filter change (With transmission 722.930/931/971) My transmission is 722.931.

The car is now approaching 6 yrs old and is reading 31400 miles. Checking the previous 5 services, the last being an A service before I picked it up last Sept, there is no mention of any ATF change having been done.

Am I correct in thinking I should have an ATF change along when the next B service is due in a couple of months time? I expect the mileage to be below 32k.

It also begs the question of why, with a full main dealer service history, carried out on schedule previously, has the ATF not be done at 3yrs?

I don’t want to complicate things but it may be different for an AMG model rather than a standard 7g box. My 9g box would normally be five years or 77,000 miles but I’m sure I read somewhere that the AMG43 change is due at three years (but can’t find where I read that at the moment).

Roger, our 63s were identical in year and type. Mine was registered in 2014 (10th October).
I had the B service done August 2018 (28th.) which included the Automatic transmission oil change 722.9. The car therefore was 3 years and 9 months old, and mileage 34,952. I queried with the service department at MB Cheshire Oaks when the AT change as you say was due at 31,000 miles ,but they were insistent to wait until the B service was due- warranty would remain intact... (at 3 years it was only on 29k miles and they said they weren't 'allowed' to do it before 31k).
So in answer to your question, I believe they will have to do this on your upcoming B service

I reckon if you drive your car harder than most then why not do it sooner pal ? 30k perhaps ?

Funny thing is, I don't drive it hard even though its been remapped. Very rare it gets full beans, although its nice to know the power is there if needed. I can't wind the clock back to 30k. Its done 31400 now.

Thanks for that John.
Looking over the services, it should thoeretically have been done on the third service in 2017 at 3 yrs old, but that was an A service.
So the B service in 2018 when the mileage was at 23994 was when it was missed. The plugs and air filter were changed then, but its possible the owner himself decided he didn't want the expense and asked them not to do it.
According to the ESS, its supposed to be done at 31k miles or 3 years, whichever is soonest.
I can only guess at what happened, or didn't as is the case .

Anyway, it will be done in Sept at its next service, probably at MBS or Hamilton Auto Tech, both good indies. It will probably still have less than 32k miles at that point so no big deal as far as wear goes.

Each to their own pal but it seems the more often its serviced the less like it will to cause any problems

I agree. With the low mileage I cover, having it done annually as recommended is good for me.

It has had 5 services up to date with another due in Sept.

I've avoided this thread as I can't really suggest anything other than "If in doubt, get it done". ;)

When I had mine I didn't manage that many miles on it, though I did send the transmission to the US for rebuilding with Weistec internals, so it was obviously done then. That was at around 22,000 miles. I sold it to Alps at c28,000 miles back in August 2017 but happen to know that he had the fluid changed again when he'd ran the car for about nine months. I remember this as Ollie did it at BOTG in 2008.

I remember asking why at the time but seem to remember it was a "just because" job.
