Each time I take my Merc to the garage, it costs me 1000s of pounds....

Been servicing my Mercedes Benz, C 180 Kompressor 2008 at the same garage for the last 3 years.
Each time I take it for servicing it costs me 1000s and repairs take weeks to complete. Not to include having to hire a replacement car
This time I went in for a MOT and service B. Besides asked them to look at the washer jets and the windshield spindle, which was leaking.
Now been told the total costs will costs around 800 quid, and parts will be ordered asap. Which here means as slow as possible.
Here is their response, cut and pasted

We have carried out the MOT and B service. It has failed on both anti-roll bar links – this will be covered under parts warranty. It has also failed on washer jet and side repeater lens which is on the above proforma.

We have inspected the serpentine belt, we can see that it is all ok and has no cracking or damage.

The oil blockers for the solenoid wires that you have asked us to check, we have found a slight oil leak from the solenoid and oil in plugs on the loom. We have disconnected the engine ECU and found oil present in the multiplug. If we replace the solenoids and remove the oil there will still be oil residue in the wiring so how would you like us to proceed with this?

We have attempted to fit the rubber seal on the rear axle supplied by yourself, the part supplied is incorrect and requires the wiper motor spindle. This is also in the proforma above.

Looks like another grand down the drain, Paid out like 5 grand in September itself.
It it the garage or my car??

Thank goodness I DIY. We run a CLK of the same age and 150k recorded. Past year's service/MOT costs are for the MOT itself, oil and filter (MB oil- Bosch filter) plus a coolant temp sensor from Mercedes. Total costs for the lot £102.

Guess it’s the wrong garage then, I would have checked with another 18 months ago.

Perhaps let the garage inform you of problems, and let them supply the parts.

No, it's not a Merc dealer
My annual mileage is around 11,000 miles and overall I think is around 150,000 miles
Last year in March at the MOT they said all was fine but your car is not road worthy till the breaks liners are changed--500£
6 months later, at servicing A , they said ' omg your read subframe is about to fall off' Can't move the car, till this is sorted. This and further repairs there took 4500 quid and the car was off-road for a month, while they tried to buy parts. If I had not stepped in and expedited the purchase of parts from Germany, the car would have been off-road for 2 months
This time it was an MOT and service B and just to have a look around the engine and mainly sort out the trouble with the leaking spindle of the wiper and leaking rain cowl
The car now has failed MOT, due to the water jets and all repairs to cost 761 quid. If they don't find anything else to screw me.
Plus I have to hire a replacement car, taking this to around 900-1000 quid

Please find the proforma attached within. I can't understand most parts of it anyway

With all due respect your friendly garage are clearly enjoying rinsing out your wallet , with that mileage I wouldn't throw any more money at it. Use it as a deposit on your next car.

I live in Birmingham but work in Lincoln
So could visit both areas

I assume that this is S&P Garages in Lincoln who claim to be "a Mercedes-Benz Car Specialist" ?

I have to say if I owned a 2008 C180 with 150k miles on the clock & doing 11k miles p.a. I would be considering moving to a newer vehicle with lower mileage on it - say he running a 1973 MG B GT V8 & a 1959 MGA!

But I'm not using either as a daily driver, although one or other usually does a 3-4k European trip each summer.

If it is S&P I didn’t get the warm and fuzzies when I went there a few years ago, very much felt like they were happy to throw parts at a car rather than try finding a root cause.

Shame you paid for the subframe, a decent indie may have known that MB are covering the cost of them…… :eek:
They didn’t even know this or bother about it.Just gave me a quote.Only after I put this on the forum, did I get some idea
I then contacted Mercedes Lister in Lincoln, who basically fobbed me off. So instead of waiting, I just went ahead and paid for it.
Even when I decided to pay, both of the abive were clueless on where to get it from. After waiting for 2 weeks, I phoned around and got one. Or else these guys would have taken months.
Merc Lister are a hopeless bunch, wonder how they provide a service
Last time I went to check for the spindle rubber, for the wiper and was kept waiting for 45 mins.
Before someone turned up with a print out and ‘ sorry computer say na’
Even the receptionist was too busy engrossed in her diary and the phone , to look up and acknowledge you

They're about the nearest of the recommended Indy's.

My last three visits here to SP Lincoln have been a misery
1) Simple MOT in March 2021- One day job. Got a call ' Sorry your front brake pipes are corroroded, car not road worthy ' Will need additional repairs- After shelling out 500 quid, got the car and MOT done
2) Went back within 6 months for service B. ' Sorry your car is unsafe, as the sub frame is about the fall off'
Along with this, additional repairs took 4.5k plus a month in the garage and another 500 quid for a hire car
Why wasn't a rotten sub frame picked up in March?
3) This time, again a simple MOT and Service B- Same trick, car has failed MOT due to washer jet malfunction. Additional repairs 780 quid plus hire care = 1 grand.

Wonder if terms, such as 'car not safe or not road worthy ' or 'failed MOT' are used to lock up your car at the garage and then leave you with no option but to shell out thousands in repairs to get it back.
Last time I will ever go to S& P garages, Lincoln

You could try MSL in Birmingham, they aren’t just tuners but do the every day stuff too
