I have just had 2 new front tyres fitted having noted that the inner shoulder of one my existing tyres had delaminated and the other wasn't too far away from dong the same thing. Having had two new front tyres fitted I was told by the tyre company that they wouldn't check the tracking and that I had to go to the local dealer.

On contacing the dealer I am told that a 'geometry' test will take between 2 -4 hours at £95 + VAT per hour.

My question is a simple one, does this sound right?

Many thanks.

I've been told that too.
Officially the dealer is right - full geometry check with fancy kit and inc weighting down the car correctly and it could take that time. However as they charge £95+vat per hour, it just gets silly.

Ring round. It's true that some places won't touch a Merc. I've had some say they can't do mercs and others that they can't cope with my 17'' wheels but there are plenty of folk out there that can do it.

I had mine done at a local tyre place for £25. It may not be quite as accurate as the dealer but she runs smooth and tyre wear is even so it must be 95%+ which is close enough. Go over a couple of speed bumps and it will be out again anyway!

Thanks jberks, I'll phone round tomorrow and see if I can find someone who will have a go for a more reasonable amount!
