Had the LPg fitted a couple of weeks ago, but then was out of the U.k mostly so didn't get to drive the E55 much-got back last week and thought it seemed somewhat slower than I remembered-took it to local M/B dealer - turned out the air mass meter was knackered and had defaulted to the "get you home" factory settings, - apparently a not uncommon fault with this generation E class. The dealer fitted a new one (fortunately I've got a M/B used car warranty on it) -what a difference!
Went from the Midlands to Blandford this morning, then on to Watford, then back to the Midlands -round trip of 432 miles-started out with full L.P.G. tank, topped up in Andover (robbing Shell dealer charged 57.9 p per litre -only 39p p litre at my local independent!) -arrived back still showing 1/4 tank L.P.G., (petrol used =appx. 1/4 gallon-just to start it and run until it'd reached normal temperature when it automatically switches to L.P.G.) -so -a petrol equivalent of about 35-37 m.p.g.at VERY high average speeds
Performance is astounding-at no time was I overtaken, and I would sometimes come up behind 4-.5 cars in a line (on the Salisbury to Newbury road) behind a slower moving lorry.or just a "dawdler", at say 35-40 m.p.h., pull out, kick down and just engulfe the whole lot in one go-no drama, fuss, or danger, just the deeply satisfying roar from the V8 -reminds me very much of the same effortless. mile swallowing ease of my 928
Ye Gods - I thought the S8 was fast, but this estate(!) may be even faster.Good job the dog wasn't with me or he'd have spent the journey glued on the inside of the back window.
So far so good then-very satisfied with the car -if it's reliability is as good as all the other Mercedes' I've had then I'll be well pleased
