Well, it is true to say that these things work in a fashion. But your fuel economy suffers, cold starting suffers and the performance gains are never anywhere near the amount that they advertise. Plus you might have a bit of a problem with emmissions come next MOT. Manufacturers set their ECUs as they do with a lot of experience. Who are you gonna trust, MB research and development or some nutter from Ebay?

I don't see how putting a resistor on the ECU is going to give an instant 20bhp. Sure a remapped ECU will. but at the expense of long term reliability and fuel economy. If this interferes with the feed from the sensors I suspect you will see a multitude of poor running issues.E.g. If you tell it that the MAS shows more air density than is true, it will overfuel and probably stuff up the cat.

I suspect this is no more effective than those air inlet devices that claim to do the same thing by adding a swirl to the air intake.
I'd give it a miss.

Wow, for only £22 including postage I can up the performance of my car by 20 BHP! And their was me thinking that MB put £ millions into ensuring that all the components worked in perfect harmony. So all you have to do is fit this item to an A140 and you get 25% (ish) increase in power.

Just hope they have a version for my sons Ford KA, he's currently got badges on the back that say 16V and Turbo, both of which will be as effective at increasing the performance as this con.

If performance improvements were this easy wouldnt we all have the extra performance from new. Engine design is a compromise, performance against running costs against life expectancy etc. Ebay is full of adverts like this for all makes of cars. "Chipping" was very popular about 10 years ago, especially with turbos. The problem was that if you ever used the extra power you blew the engine. Very quickly manufacturers started assuming that blown engines had been chipped and stopped covering them under warranty.

Bottom line - extra BHP always costs lots of ££££. £22 buys you a clean air filter if your lucky!

Mark.

Where cars are concerned I have managed to get by with two safeguards which bring me back to earth when I am in danger of getting carried away. ' If it aint broke dont try and fix it ' and ' If it sounds too good to be true , it probably is' . I think this product falls in the latter category.
