Hi Again Gents,
Today I was on my way home on the M6 and the car started shuddering and vibrating from the left hand side rear, this was at around 80mph I slowed down and the shuddering carried on until I was down to 55mph, I carried on home at this speed and all was ok until I looked at the LH rear brake disc which was virtually red hot and had blued, I have noticed twice lately that the words EBC NOT AVAILABLE SEE HANDBOOK COME UP IN THE DISPLAY, :(I dont understand the red hot disc as the car freewheels easily??, could it be an EBC problem, its done 30,000mls now and is an E270 CDI 2004 W211.

Regards

Ouch,, not easy, OK if the car rolls easily then not a sticking brake pad and that is the first thing that comes to mind.

It has to be a fault on the EBC modulation pump, you can test this by watching the brake caliper and starting up the engine, with the fault shown in the dash see if the car will roll in N

Hi Malcolm,
thanks for that, the only thing is, is that the EBC fault display only came on twice once about 1000mls ago and again 2 days ago, it came on very soon after starting up and just moving out of the drive, it was only on for about 30secs then has,nt re appeared since, the car rolls really free so no sticking caliper, it has started raining very heavyily at the moment so I cant check what you suggest but I will as soon as I can, the car is still under warranty by the supplying Garage who are very reputable so costing should'nt be too much of a worry.;)
thanks again for your assistance in this matter.

Thanks Alfie,, for the disc to be red hot, that caliper must have been stuck on, The garage must be told that as it will, or should be replaced what ever the outcome.

Hi Malcolm,
I have just been out and braved the weather:lol: and the car does roll free now whilst in neutral with the engine running, It is rather worrying though if I take it to the garage and all they do is replace the disc, do you think there will be any codes logged in the computer, or would you reckon I should just make sure they check out the full EBC system inc the pump, I have noticed that since I bought it that the pump can be heard pretty often when manouvering in traffic is this pretty normal?.
Thanks
Alfie B
