Biggest help is to give the first 6 numbers from your VIN

That code reader will not work. It is for 211 eclass not 124 which you have.

You need the pin reader. It is available on ebay usa.

The reader that you have is cr4p anyway and seldom reads all the codes.

Your idel problem could be so many things. Take it to someone who knows these cars.

All diagnostic code readers are for plugging into the diagnostic plug NOT normally into the ECU.

AS was previously mentioned you have the WRONG code reader.

Your diagnostic plug is on the right side (off side) of the engine bay in front of the brake vacuum unit.
It is a little black plastic box some 2x3 inches with a pull off lid.

Inside there are 16 pin holes (connections) to plug a diagnostic code reader.

Not all the pin holes will have connections, some will be empty.

The main one for engine codes is number 8.

As you are not familiar with this you should find a Mercedes specialist that can read the codes for you.

Where are you located, perhaps someone can advise a good inexpensive specialist.

Is the car stalling all the time ?????????

Does it stall whilst driving it ??????????

That is not the engine ECU you have found.

The engine ECU is behind the battery behind a plastic cover (if still fitted)

I'm in Southend - Essex

I can run it with my foot on the gas but it stalls if I let off at any point ...

Could be a big air leak. Also throttle actuator could cause this.
