Require urgent help. Over these past 2 months I run out of power then suddenly EDC is displayed on the dashboard, then the car just stops. After a few turns she starts again. Now the EDC has appeared again and the car will not start at all. Would it be possible to explain the problem and how to sort it. The car is a Mercedes e300 1996.
Many thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum, is the car a 124 or 210 please.

So the starter spins the engine but it does not fire up.

What were the driving symptoms when it first started

EDC probems

Forgive me, Malcolm, but my knowledge of cars is very little. Basically the car would loose power and just stop. I pull the car unto the side of the road and turn the starter perhaps 4/7 times and she starts again. Now as I said she stopped completely and just will not start, obviously the battery has run down now as well.

The CPS crankshaft sensor can go open circuit, more on a 210 than a 124, this will just make the engine stop, and it can be re started and the same thing happens again

Could you please explain when you ask, is it a 124 or 210 - what does this mean? Also prior to the car stopping, EDC is displayed on the dash and when the car stops the EDC continues to be displayed on the dash.

Sorry this is the type of the car, in the windscreen bottom passenger side there is a number starting off WDB124 or WDB 210.

if you can take a look on the screen take a note of the next 3 numbers ie 210026 or what ever they are

My turn to apologise, the car is not with me at the moment although the car is a Mercedes E300. Will check these details but it may be Monday?

Thanks for that, now when it cuts out does it sputter or hesitate before it stops,or did the power cut instantly when it was running

Ouch,, Sorry this hardly ever happens.

Perhaps I should have asked if you have checked the fuel and spark. To test for a spark, take off a plug lead and using a insulated screwdriver put the blade in the hole of the plug cap and hold the blade about ½" away from any metal part of the engine, when the engine is cranked, there should be a good spark across the gap from the screwdriver blade and the ground point
