Egr Valve

Can anybody help please.
I have a 51 plate E220 cdi last of the old shape,i am trying to find the egr valve so i can remove it to clean. The only problem is i can't see it.
Ihave the same probs as many on this site,smoke under load,its black smoke so its fuel, it seems to run fine and accelerates well but smokes.
ps i am new to this site so i hope i have done this right

Hi Seve and welcome,as parrotts answer,you will have found it.
if it is stuck open its hardly worth trying to clean as the spring will be weak.

Thanks guys for your reply i have found it, it is full of carbon. the valve is closed by the looks of it, I will give it a clean and see what happens

just to add, parrot of doom that link you posted is priceless i have had a look and my engine is the 211 but egr is in same place

If its anything like mine the valve will require a lot of pressure to open - get a friend to hold the body, while you push the valve open using the handle end of a screwdriver or hammer.
