I have been told that i need to change my EIS module as my doors do not open and the key does not turn. Can i buy a second hand one with a key and install it. Please help as the dealer has quoted me £900 for installing a new EIS with a key. I have a C180 1999

Thank you

Where in the country are you?
I would take it to a good Indy and see what their diagnosis is, i don,t think a secondhand EIS unit is a viable option really, as this unit is not the only one coded to the car, some units can be recoded to suit, some units once coded can,t be recoded. Members Colechelle or BlackC55 would be able to tell you more.

Can't be done. I think you would need every module from the donor car to make it work. WWW.BBA-REMAN.COM claim to be able to repair your own unit if faulty, but I have not used them for this myself. A new one from Mercedes needs a star machine to install, as well as a 'green' key which Mercedes will rent to you. (It is orange, and I have no idea why they call it green)

Try MERC-CARE Pudsey www.merc-care.com 0113 257 7500,I have found them very good.garages leeds/Bradford

ditto - used them many times myself.
I've not used BBA reman myself either but they are good allegedly. There is a big industry springing up now to repair all these gizmos so its well worth doing some digging.
