Electric Folding door mirror

Hi again to you all.

I'm sure that this has been covered before, but can't seem to find the info I need, so apologies all round. Here goes........

The drivers side electric folding door mirror on my E 320 CDi 2004 (211) sometimes refuses to open out. Press the interior button a couple of times and it normally goes out. If it doesn't a gentle push is needed. I've tried to lubricate the mechanism from the outside but it would seem without success.

Sometimes although it opens out, it is slightly hesitant to start out but then gets going.

Are we looking at an electrical issue here, or is it more likely to be mechanical?

Don't mind having a stab at fixing it but I'm unsure about how to remove the outer casing - can't see much at all in the way of retaining clips etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers................Shaun.

Hi Shaun I have sent you the paper on how to remove the mirror outer casing, you then need to use some silicon or PTFE into the swivel part of the mirror frame where it swivels, it will free off

There is a repair kit for this problem on the 211.

It consists of a new motor and two pins that you replace in the mirror, this should cure permanently

Ellsy, thanks for your reply too. Will give the mechanism a lube first & then It'll be onto a new motor and pins if that fails.

Cheers.................Shaun.

Hi Malcolm, thanks for sending me the paper on removing the mirror outer casing. It says to first remove the mirror glass. Is this removed by carefully pulling/levering out or is there another way?

Cheers..........Shaun.

The mirror can stay in place if you push it in on the side nearest the glass, but if you want to remove it then unclip the metal pin at the top back of the glass and remove downwards.
