DIY places, and machine mart often stock these. I reccomend u buy at least 500 kg. I had 250 kg. It did most jobs OK but a Yr in it would not lift much over 1oo kg. I think I paid 149 for it in brico france

I bought a dirt cheap one to move a lathe about in the cellar on Ebay that looks just like the Clarke on in the post above.
Yes I had to bend the limit switch to make it work properly and weld up some brackets to suspend it from but it lifted and lowered just fine.
It is now sitting in a box waiting for next time I need to move the lathe or something.
Beware. They usually quote the lift with the cable doubled back (parbuckling) and that puts the suspension point well below the winch so if you don't have plenty of headroom you need to get creative with the cables.

Parbuckling I knew there was something I needed to learn about.

Sounds like something from a Pirate.

Well nautical.
It's just the proper name for doubling the rope back with a pulley block so you pull in twice the length at half the load.

How big is the girder and what do you want to lift? No point buying a 500kg hoist if the girder will only take 200kg. :)

If it's an I beam you cud get. Make a roller runner so pictured hoist cud be positioned at any suitable point . Myself I can't as it's all concrete x beams

Yes, it will be on a roller runner as I think that would work better, as I said a big learning curve as I didn't know of all the options and very variable performance.

It will initially be on first floor ridge beam to lift building material etc then it can go in my garage to do what I don't know.....................yet.

I have a Parkside badged version of the Clarke @ajlsl600 posted, I use it over my loft hatch to lift a small cage with stacked boxes etc. They vary wildly in price depending on badge for essentially the same unit. I operate mine from above so if anything goes wrong I am not in the line of fire, only from "The Trousers" for damage caused!

Loft job is good idea. May well take up that one shortly, may even help get 12m of stainless flue liner into chimney?

If making ur roller wheels, remember bottom of I sections are not internally flat, they are tapered so ur wheels are best tapered to match. I use 10mm plate for sides and spacers to to keep rollers on correct place on lower I section. You can buy them ready made for different I section
