Had the windscreen replaced yesterday on my sl320 by Autoglass. Later in the day tried to put the electric hood up and found that it only partially worked. The hood will go up (rather jerkily) but will not lock shut on top of the windscreen. Then after opening and closing hood cover panel the front will lock but back of hood does not close fully. Red warning light is on.
Have tried re-syncronising the electric windows by putting them up and holding them for a few seconds but it has no effect.
Is there a connection between the windscreen replacement and the sudden failure of the hood to work properly? Isd there a DIY fix or is it a job for the dealer?

Andy,

Thanks very much for your help. There has been a slight improvement with the hood in that the everything now works except that the soft top will not lock into "up" position and the closing operation ceases at that point. It opens properly. Have also checked all the fuses connected with hood and they are OK.
Will try the battery disconnect idea. Do both terminals need to be disconnected or is it sufficient to remove only the negative?
Am not sure if there is any connection with the windscreen change except that the hood worked perfectly before it and the job involved stripping trim from the top of the windscreen and exposing the locking system.

Many thanks
William

Update on electric hood. Autoglass fitter came today to look at problem. He dismantled the trim above windscreen and found that part of the sensor in the middle part had not been reassembled properly. It had not been put back into its slot and was lying loose. It has been put back now but the hood still stops when it reaches the top of the windscreen and does not lock.
There is a concern that when the sensor was out of place it could have shorted against the metal frame and caused some damage. Anyhow car is going to dealer to be checked.

Are your windows up?

Does the hood lock onto the windscreen when the doors are open? This is how I close the hood. If your one shoot electric window switch doesn't work then the windows don't go down and the hood will not close. Are your windows up? If the doors are open then the windows can be up as the ECU knows the door and window are not in the way. Is your engine on when you close the hood? The pressure in the hood hydraulic system may not be A1. With the engine running you have a better chance of closing the hood.

Ray,
Problem is that hood will not lock onto windscreen with doors open or closed. Windows always open themselves as first action on pressing hood button, and I did the usual window reset to see if that would solve the problem. There seems to be plenty of power in the actual raising and lowering of the hood. It just stops when the hood drops onto the top of the windscreen. Been to dealer and car goes in tomorrow for repair. Hopefully it will just be a matter of reprogramming the computor thing that controls the hood. Otherwise a microswitch or two might need replacing or indeed the sensor which looked as though it had been squashed by the trim. Worst case senario would be a new control box which is £400-£500 before fitting and probably a big argument with Autoglass.
