Anyone know if it is feasible to fit an electrically operated sun blind to the rear of a W203 estate? MB don't list one but....?

So won't the roller blind be in the way if there is a sunblind there?

If the load luggage roller blind is fully extended, it will be at the back of the tailgate, about where you would want your sunblind.

Mmm! See what you mean, will have to check in the morning. Is it possible the sunblind could sit below the roller blind and extend past up to cover the rear screen? Never really checked the clearance between the roller blind and tailgate.

Don't know. There must be some clearance but I bet it isn't much.

Have you still got the HSR??

im not familiar with these later models too much but i once fitted a electric sunblind to a w126 series and all i did was remove the whole of the wiring from a breaker and it was straight forward.if it isnt an option on the w203 chassis then i think it will be a little more difficult.

The rear blind for a w203 is an option on the saloon only. Its not so much of a roller blind in that it has these two extending arms either side that spring up to reveal the blind.

So not impossible to fit/modify? How about the wiring?

Well on the W203 saloon its a different rear parcel shelf (as it springs up out of it!) so I have no idea where it would/could spring from on a W203 estate. The wiring would be the easy bit, its the physics of it that would be difficult.

Mmm, I see... Could a blind from other models be more suitable? Supercharger mentions a w216?

My old black Lab would certainly appreciate a bit of shade but I dont like the idea of having a permanent or stick on type

Why not 'presidential' tint the rear windows?

Thought about that and had it on my previous car but didn't like the reduction in night vision.

What about the IR reflective glass found on the S class? is that a film or special glass? It seems quite clear

on the rear windscreen on my C220 i have a roller blind which is manual, (not mercedes equipement at all) but it's black, looks neat and when extended shields my day time rear view driving from blinding sun (but still clear to see behind) and at night, it diffuses the bright lights of cars behind me, so even though it's manual, I rarely if ever take it down.

just a thought, and very easy to fit, looks the 'part' and cheap and cheerful, here in sweden you can buy they in a 'all in one' shop that specialises in car parts amongst other things called http://www.biltema.se

here's one that they do (not the same as mine as mine is not split in two)

http://www.biltema.se/products/productimage.asp?iItemId=77251

to give you an idea of what i'm talking about.

cheers

Very good but the car in question is an estate which already has a load/luggage roller cover that extends to the tailgate trim & so is a completely different ball game to a saloon car.

Thanks for the info anyweb but as type49 says its an estate. Plus I don't want it to look like an aftermarket add-on. I'm sure Benson (my lab) wouldn't care but I've gotta look at it every day

that was my point in the first place

in real life everyday use it doesnt feel like an aftermarket add-on

and it's cheap

i like it at least :)

pls consider the cheap option, if it fails to impress, by all means waste money on an electric thingy

cheers

Soz anyweb, didn't mean to dis your choice.

I know the same could be achieved more cheaply but it seems a dis-service to the car IMHO

i guarantee you'll disagree with yourself if you try the manual option,

once up, it stays up unless you decide it needs to come down,

it's not like electric windows which you need up and down all the time,
please consider it, it'll save you a whole bunch of time fixing and money.

worst case scenario, you decide it's crap and go for your original idea.

oh well, i've said enough,
