Electric seat problems?

Both front seats in my 2001 CLK 430 have ceased to function, both in reach and height adjust. Is there anyone out there who has an idea as to what this problem may be? Seems like there is some sort of link as the pair have gone down together.

Hello. For a start you do have fuses for the seats and possibly a relay,check the fuses first.

Thanks I will, when I engage the switch, I can hear that contact is being made as there is a clicking sound from down near the motor. I have also been advised that the car may need to go on a diagnostic machine as this problem is related with the ignition?

You have a CAN bus in the car that checks all of the electrical functions.
these include seats, mirrors, windows. you have several SAM units in the car (signal aquasition module) the car does one high speed check through the CAN bus for important things (safety) and another low speed check at the same time for drivable features like seats etc.

I would still check the fuses as the power supply for the notors in the seats is seperate from the control units that you can hear clicking.

Took it to Benz, they whacked it on the diag machine, now sorted! Never thought it would be that easy.
