The motor for fore and aft movement will only move aft, as I presume there is one motor for fore-aft movement, is the fault more likely to be in the door switch, or is there a control relay somewhere?.

The only way you can work out what has gone would be to remove the seat squab, normally 2 screws along bottem edge, and a volt meter.

the door switches, can, and do give problems, many people spray a contact cleaner into them and solve the problem (not WD40)

WD40 is a rust inhibiter, the contents may give you a short term answer. in the long term it can damage switch contacts and PCB's. Anything that had been sprayed with it, that came to me for service, would have to be sent away for cleaning in a Ultra sonic tank.If it was still servicable.

Contact cleaner is available from Tandy or factors like Farnell,CPC.

problem solved

It was the seatswitch. It rattled, like there was a couple of loose ball bearings. Lo when I took it apart, lots of loose ball bearings, and springs and copper bits...................... A new switch- worth every penny of £75 plus vat! I can now drive without stretching to the controls and feeling like my backside was dragging along the ground. Thanks for all the replies.
