Having spent the last couple of days assessing the condition of a 1990 300te 24v that I bought as "spares or repair", I have concluded that there is too much work/expense to justify getting it back to MOT standard. So it is back to plan A.
I would like to transfer the electrically heated/adjustable seats from the 300TE to my 1993 E220. Aside from the extra door and centre console switches that need to be swapped, are the any extra relays/fuses that I would also need to transfer? Will the extra cable be built into the loom of the E220 even though onlt manual seats were fitted?

Hi David,

I didn't see an extra loom going to the door, when I did mine.

Dont forget you'll also have to cut the door card to add the seat controls

also getting there wont be a loom under to e220 seat for you to hook up the electric ones.

Dont despair however, it can be done...

the e220 is a four door saloon..i hope. Because I think a e220 coupe doors are longer.

Either way. The seat motor mechanism is v.simple...my understanding of the workings is as such:

- there are five motors.
- each motor works off 12v supply.
- each motor has two wires coming out.
- connect 12v and earth to these wires and the motor spins one way.
- swap the wires around and the motor spins the other way.
- swapping the 12v and earth are done at the switch mechanism. I am assuming here that the switches are rated to take the current needed for the motors.

If not there is a complicated transistor/relay circuit either under the seat or somewhere else...(follow the loom in the 300TE)

hopefully it a simple circuit without the electronics and thus the switch mechanism with provide all movement.

- power 12v and earth should be provided at the switch...this could mean you drawing a complete cable from the battery (pos+) to the door switch.

I'd be interested to know how the electrical circuit is laid out.

Anymore questions...just ask

it's a fairly involved job, but it's worth while.

I did mine a different way..i did not have an entire car to donor off. I only had the seat mechanism (driver side only). I created a relay board to drive the motors (10 relays, 10 transistors, and resistors), then interfaced it with a microcontroller that takes signals from a simple remote.

Why did I do this (and not some simple switch mechanism)? Seemed like a good idea at the time.
