Electric Smart Fourtwo?

Anyone seen the new electric Smart two seaters? Apparently there's 100 on trial with owners in London.

The diesel does 85mpg, coming here soon. But, the complete electric version does 60miles on an 8 hour charge. 80% of which takes four hours (48 mile range) and the full charge costs 85p!

Charges from any 240V socket and mpg equivalent is 300mpg.

Selling for 10Grand, and includes the usual items, PAS, aircon etc.

Out of interest, how does the aircon system operate on these? Surely it would be far more detrimental to performance / battery life than it is to say performance and economy on a petrol or diesel vehicle?

and when every body in the country has one of these cars...can you imagine what the greenies will say when you all plug in together to get a charge ..and the consumption at powerstations increase

the greenies dont look that far ahead..and when that happens they will then say we should than use solar power to charge them.but that may be a good idea really as power companys will proberbly charge to much for electric.
