I've recently had problems with the electric drivers window on my w107 SL,1987 the window judders on the way up and stops about 3 inches from the top until I give it a wiggle and unjam it in some way. Anyone have any advice ?

Its been slow for about 6 months and got marginally better when I replaced the battery in Dec.

3 possible probs

1 poor lubrication of the window carriage rollers and mechanism
2 worn out motor/ motor brushes
3 "dry" or dirty contacts on the switch ie insufficient current is being conducted across the switch contacts ( I had this problem on my 4matic seat adjuster switch the contacts were badly burnt and dirty , a good voltage could be measured across the switch with a meter, but only a very low current in amps could be metered- once cleaned problem sorted)

I suggest you take the door card off and have a look to see if you can find the cause.

Check that the glass is still sitting correctly in the runners front and rear and that both the runners & other moving parts are greased up nicely and there are no obstructions or damage to the mechanism.

If all the above checks out ok then its new motor time.

Blimey take the door off ? Not being the lucky owner of a garage this sounds time consuming so will need some planning. I noticed the window doesn't seem to be aligned when up and the seals have damaged so it migh be an alignment issue - can you not just take off the interior facia and get access ?

I too have windows that work very slowly - the drivers rear window has recently stopped altogether - although the motor can be heard running.

How should I go about removing the door cards and the interia in the rear of my '78 W107 450SLC ?

If the window judders on the way up and/or doesnt work very well (doesn´t close fully though the motor is heard running), it might well be the cogs on the window lifting mechanism or on the motor that´s worn out. This can however be easily fixed if you get to the cog-bar inside the door and get the mechanism out. Just weld on the worn cogs (in my case they were about 6 or 7) with a gas-welder and file them down to original shape and viola - new window lifiting mechanism - smooth as ever! I´ve done this myself doubting at first it would work, but it has now worked over 6-7 months so... Good luck!
