Hello All -

Drivers side window on my 230TE has given up the ghost. The symptoms matched those described in other threads that a search on here revealed: seems certain that the gear teeth on either the motor or regulator or both arestripped or worn, so that although the motor operates, nowt happens.

I am planning to replace motor and regulator with GSF parts, as I can live with the extra noise in order to save £100+ on original parts.

However, one question (that also appeared on the previous threads but wasn't answered):

How do I manually lower the window? - it is stuck in the fully 'up' position and according to Mr Haynes I need to lower it to disconnect the glass from the regulator.

Thanks

Alan

Hi Teky

Good stuff - any chance of an arrow or something on that phot to point to exactly where you mean.

(In photoshop or similar)

Thanks for that Teky - but my car has a different regulator mechanism than that in the photo: it is operated by flat metal bars that move in a sort of 'scissors' action to raise or lower the window, rather than by cable.

The motor does not seem to be accessible without removing the whole regulator assembly from the door, which I need to be able to lower the window in order to do.

Any other suggestions most welcome!

Dont remove the mechanism from the door unless you have to as you will find that the rivetts that hold it in are too big for a standard rivett gun to handle when you come to re-fit it.

On my W124, there are two bolts that hold the motor in place and rivetts to hold the mechanism.

Spike - Thanks for that, but I think the rivets are only in the coupe - at least that's what Haynes says, and on my car everything seems to be held in by bolts.

All academic anyway at the moment, until I can find out how to lower the window!

Hi Alan

Had a similar type of problem on one of my rear windows (230TE). Turned out to simply be that a small plastic clip that holds the lifting mechanism in place on the underside of the glass had come off and the mechanism was doing its thing without affecting the window. 20 mins work and all fixed.

You don't say whether you've actually looked at the mechanism yet although if the window is stuck up it doesn't sound like the clip scenario as my window dropped quite easily. Just a thought though.
