I have just bought a c180 sport 1999, the front electric windows stop working for no reason, all fuses are ok, if i disconnect the earth lead on the battery and reconnect they start working again, i suspect a sticking relay but dont know where to locate them, any help would be appreciated

all I can say on this is that the switches do give problems, can be fixed with a good switch cleaner, Not WD40, its a matter of taking off the door card to access.

I think the windows on your car are controlled through the convenience feature relay, a large relay mounted behind the battery; you have to remove the battery for access; any problems I have heard of have been cured by unplugging this relay, cleaning the connections with contact cleaner and reconnecting. Hope this works in your case .

I'm not going to be able to offer a solution I'm affraid, all I can do is sympathise, my c230k has been doing the same thing for 2 years. On mine it could be ok for 2 days or 2weeks, usually its the front windows, and often involves the mirror adjustment, sometimes the central locking goes funny as well. All the best, I'll keep a close eye on your thread hopefully someone will come up with a solution.

Regards, Tim
