Electric Windows not working

1997 300 TD Estate
Can anyone please shed some light on why my electric windows occasionally stop working, one by one and then suddenly start working again. Currently all are not working.
Sometimes the interior lights and the central locking also stop working but are currently working ok?
Any suggestions would be gratefully welcomed.

Try a good quality switch cleaner.. maplins/halfords.. on the switch connections, i would initially suspect the swtches on a 97 vintage as they would have had a bit of use, some electric window combinations wont work if the main switch (drivers door) is giving problems..any clicks when u try the switches?

Also clean the fuse holders in the fuse box with the switch cleaner rotating them in the holders as you go

Do not use WD40

Thanks Guys for your comments, there are no clicks when I press the window switches. Everything is completely dead.

Could you have a broken wire in the door if they all stop
