After driving my 2003 SL350 all morning with no issues, I came back to the car and turned on the ignition all the lights came on but it wouldn't turn over. Turned it off, back on and still the same. On the third attempt there was nothing, so I couldn't turn the ignition key on. Is this a symptom of a failed battery control module? Or could it be something else? Is there any chance I can bring the car to life by bypassing something as I need to move it off my drive to get my other car out as there is no power the gear lever will not go into neutral. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for looking. Kindest regards Keith

Without it being transported to a Mercedes specialist , not main dealer if possible I don't really know.
Electronics aren't my best subject but going on your description of the symptoms I'm thinking EIS.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

If it’s a local independent specialist, then do ask if they can come out to you. Explain the car cannot be moved in its current state, you appreciate asking them to come is not normal but needs must.

A genuine good one will help you / give you the correct advice.

I wonder if you have a failed electronic ignition switch (EIS)?
That's a good start point after batt and cables check . When u tried to jump it u earthed to batt of somewhere on motor block, frame.?

Glad you got it sorted and your diagnosis in your first post was correct! I've seen on US forums and saw one in a local scrapyard in the UK where the bcm has ignited on R230s causing a small fire, even when a car has been stood in a garage for a few days!

Well done for determining the problem. There are a few on ebay if you need to save some coin.
