A few months ago a large drain on my battery was correctly diagnosed as a faulty block heater by one of the bloggers here.
That was disconnected and all was well and dandy until today! Another flat battery, I had a fully charged one in the garage and I fitted it and all was well, except that all is not well, I disconnected the negative and held it close to the terminal and there is obviously another drain somewhere, anyone any ideas?

I'm afraid I prefer to leave that to the professionals. Trouble is the professional i used had a heart attack and is unlikely to be back anytime soon, he had a Merc himself and was conversant with their weakness.
When I was fitting the fully charged battery there was a sound from the disc player in the boot, I was wondering if there might be a problem there.

Well the problem seems to lie with one of the SAM's, there had been water under the footwell on the drivers side a year or so ago, and i checked it periodically and it was still dry after cleaning out the drains, but it has come back ,maybe not just as deep as the first time but it shouldn't be there in the first place, trouble is the drains are clear from what I can see, there is a small channel in the footwell where a heavy red cable lies, would it be a good idea to drill a small hole there to let any moisture out? Also, what sort of money is a SAM unit? I don't want to get rid of the car, but if it is going to be costly to fix this I might have to say bye bye.
