Electrical faults

Hi Folks,
I have a 1995 C280 sport (auto). Had a flat battery and with the help of a friend managed to reverse the jump leads when trying to jump start the car. As a result there was a puff of smoke from under the fuse box in the engine bay. An auto electrictian was called and he replaced a wire with a melted casing. The car runs but sometimes the idle speed drops and when put into gear, instead of wanting to move off, the car stalls. The central locking does not always work and the windows when left open no longer close when the central locking button on the key fob is held down.
Put the car into a garage and recieved the following report:

Checked faults in memory.
1. Check voltage at ECU
2. Cam solenoid open circuit.
3. Re-generation value os
4. ECU N3/4 faulty
Above faults will not erase.

I have been told that the ECU will cost £725 plus V.A.T plus labour to replace but that might not solve all the problems.

What I would like to know is:
1. Is it true replacing the ECU might not solve all the problems?
2. Can The ECU be repaired?
3. If so, who in the UK does this and where in the car is it located?
4. What does re-generation value os mean?

Would be greatful for any advice.
Cheers for now

I do not know off the top of my head if your car has a over voltage relay, as if you have one, this could cause your problems. The positive check is to make sure that you have 12 volt going to the ECU boxes, without knowing that, nothing is for sure, the input is pin 30 on all boxes where 12v should be present.

simular

Very simular fault to what I was getting on my C200. This has a wiring loom fault which is very predominant in these cars. Although I would have to say it would be a coincidence.

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for your advice, will check out these ECU voltages and will find out if the car has an 'over voltage relay'.
Cheers for now.

Hi Kiwi bloke,
Thanks for your reply, have been advised to ECU voltages so if these are wrong I will check out the wiring loom.
Cheers for now

by the way to replace ecu takes 3 minutes maximum (just 2 x 10mm bolts)
