Electrical Problems

I have various problems with the electrics on my year 2000 C240 estate (w02) When i turn the ignition key, no lights appear, nothing happens at all ! I remove key and try again several times. Eventually, this works. Sometimes, the wipers fail to work, turning off ignition and re-starting car fixes! My fuel guage sometimes just drops to empty, again, re-starting car sometimes fixes! The lcd dashboard display only shows a few numbers. Can anyone tell me if these faults are related please?

This all sounds like a faulty ignition switch, this is quite a common failing and it fits the bill exactly from you good description.

The LCD display is somrthing else that can be dealt with
