Hi the display on the temperature guage on my 2000 CLK has been a bit dodgy, only showing bits of the figures, for a few months, which I can live with. Now the clock has started doing the same. Anyone know what causes this or know of a magical quick fix?

I got the same problem on my E240 year 2001, the Temp and Clock keep loosing different bits of the pixels, sometimes they are fine, but more the usual they dont work, hence you cant see the clock/temp digits properly ......... I think this is a common fault with mercs as my friends car has the same problem ........... surely Mercedes should RE-SOLVE IT as they must be aware of this fault .......

believe me they are fully aware, but they told me 'officially' that they didn't believe this was a common fault - I just laughed at them. This was 2 years ago and no one would touch them for repair and MB wated over £650 to replace.
Anyway, onto more positive things. It is simply a dodgy connection, but whilst some have allegedly sorted theirs, I had no luck with mine, despite 2 attempts. The connector is simply too innacessible, so unless you do this kind of thing for a living, I'd leave it to the experts. You're lucky. I sold my E240 in the end, so all the repairers have now come out of hiding and are offering to sort them.
Allegedly info@speedofixer.co.uk will sort it for around £150 and BBA-reman will do them now, although they may be nearer the £250 mark.

Yep - same problem

Hello all,

I have the same problem.

October 2002 Registered E 320 CDi Estate.

Clock starting losing pixels about 2 months after the warranty expired. I didn't worry too much at the time coz it was a bit intermittent but now the temp guage has gone as well. Oddly enough it happened after I washed the car - I gave it a pretty good clean using the hosepipe. I wondered if I'd got water somewhere that I shouldn't have.

Is it worth having a go at Mercedes to try and get this sorted even though its a year out of warranty?. The car has only done 65,000 miles.

Thanks

Paul

i think if you went to merc, they would say you need a new cluster, i doubt very much they would offer or even know how to repair.

dont speedofixer offer warranty aswell.

if i was in your shoues i would ok try merc just to see what they say, then try speedofixer.

It is affected by moisture to some extent, but I doubt you got water to it. Went away for a week at xmas, came back to snow on the ground, damp air in the car and virtually no pixels. After a few weeks with the heater on, some came back, some didn't. MB aren't interested or at least weren't when I complained. Offered me a new one at full retail (£600+ setup and vat). I suggested they should do an exchange deal but they don't believe it is a common fault. That said, it affects Merc, BMW, Saab etc so we're not alone.
It will get worse, they always do.
Bite the bullet and give speedofixer a call.
