Hi,

I'm fed up of running the engine up to "working temperature" waiting 5 minutes then putting the key to position 2 and finding the oil check area of the computer only to be told to "Observe waiting time" I've tried leaving it 10 minutes, 30 minutes, standing on my head, singing Rap, the German National Anthem everything but can't get past the "Observe waiting time" statement with a picture of an oil can!!
Theres's NO dipstick can anyone help please? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks. Mike

yes..easy...dont check it till the morning.. do not, i repeat, do not start the engine. it will check it okay as long as you are on level ground.

ignore the manual.

Oil check - Uh?

Hi Slinky,

Thanks for the reply (the only 1 so far!!)

I'll try that and if it works (not that I doubt you for a second) then I'll send you a "how knowledgeable you are" message ) You will then be distinctly more knowledgeable than any dealer I've telephoned so far....who know absolutely 'nothing' (said in a german accent).

Thanks, I'll let you know
Take care
Mike

Oil check - nope doesn't work for me

Sorry Slinky, no go :-(

Took it up to the local Merc dealer this morning. "Just keep trying at different intervals" they said "Some take 5 mins, some take 30" (very helpful) I've now tried your "first thing in the morning without starying the engine" suggestion plus at running temperature after stop and 5,10,15,20,30,35,40,45,50,55 mins and 1 hour and still can't get past the "Observe wiating time" statement.
Ahhh sod it, it'll tell me when it's low on oil - won't it!!!??

well the valves departing thru the bonnet will tell you..or the total seize up.

if you are unable to check it so are they. i would suggest you travel ASAP to another dealer and explain the problem.....if it doesn check after being sat all nitgh it is duff for some reason.....waiting for different intervals is no good if you have left it 6hrs or more.....imagine how long it will take for a service....

i would also suggest you contact MB customer services and ask them what should be happening and what to do about it.....

ps. went out and checked mine...and it works...
