Just came on an hour ago. The manual says this has to do with Seat belts or Air bags. Anyone else encounter this one, how was it rectified etc? Cheers.

See if you can re set it by turning the steering from lock to lock 3 times.

If its a 210 and the above does not work change the brake light switch, only £10 and easy to fit

esp (electronic stability program) has nothing to do with air bag (srs) or seat belts. Tell us which it is. :)

I take it this is on your C Coupe.

esp is electronic stability program. It tracks your inputs - throttle, wheel position, brakes, wheel rotation etc and looks for anything that doesn't tally and drops the throttle, and brakes a wheel to rectify it. It kicked in when my car aquaplaned on a motorway and kept me straight and on the road. Asolutely brilliant gizmo. So if any of the sensors are on the blink or dont tally it shuts down and pops the warning up. As Malcolm says, sometimes, running the wheel lock to lock will resync the wheel sensor and put the light out.
Mines on the blink at the moment as the sensor that tracks the steering wheel position has failed completely (wheel twirling doesn't help) and Merc uk don't have any in the country. Cruise control and speed limiter are off as a result too.

D'oh !! On checking this morning and doing the "lock to lock" test I then realised that it is actually the SRS warning light "Restraint System - Visit Workshop" warning. Don't know why I thought it was the other one?

Any ideas on this one? Thanks all.

Passenger seat sensor plug is a common one but as Malcolm says, have it plugged in.

I almost said that as well or the passenger seat pad, but not sure if it more a 210-211 thing

I had the same problem with my car recently. SRS warning light.. on sometimes off on others.

Checked the plug/contacts and all was OK. Swapped out the passenger seat sensor and all is well again.

The seat sensor swap is a DIY job if you are reasonably competent. Unplug all connectors under the seat to the car, Take the seat out (4 bolts).. remove the leather seat covering at the front to expose the pocket that the sensor sits in and swap the sensor out. The sensor comes in the form of a flat flexible panel (for want of a better expression) that fits the width of the seating area. I think it cost me about 90 Euros for the part (Local MB in Faro. Portugal) I'm away from home right now so can't confirm that.

I had what your reporting on my W203 (03 Cdi), and like you was told to take to workshop.

What is was me, and was told was very common fault alert, was the cable for the main airbag that runs under the drivers seat was no longer tight, thus needed replacing (though in my case they managed to make it tight saving my the cable costs + time to put in).

Hopefully, its as simple as this for you.
