I have a serious problem with a 2004 registered E200 avantguard.
Car failed NCt on emissions first time. Garage say they have put in a new Lambada and catalytic converter. Car still failing on emissions.
Initial readings were;
Low Idle (750 rpm) Co 2.45

High Idle (2870 rpm) Lambada 0.888
Co 3.96

now after changing the Lambada and the catalytic converter results were;
Low Idle (700 rpm) Co 0.14

High Idle (2770 rpm) Lambada 0.966
C0 1.19

Any thoughts /help greatly appreciated.

If the new cat is a none genuine cheap alternative then it could be that until the cat is as hot as it possible could be then it wont pass the test, Ive seen cheap cats on vaux, etc that dont get hot enough before the MOT and fail.

Thanks Jib.
This is a 04 registered car.
Can cat's go that quickly.
Would you be sure it is the cat and the lambada that is the problem?

Really needs diags running on the car to see whats going on, service and condition of filters etc can have some impact on emissions.

Wouldnt have thought the car would fail that quickly but who knows, what about the air flow meter has that been replaced recently? is it the original air flow meter with merc part number etc etc.

Hello Jib,
The original air flow meter has not been replaced to my knowledge.One of the mechanics said to me he did something with the petrol to help get better mileage to the gallon. What would he have adjusted and could this be the underlying problem?The car is running rich still. Could it be an oxygen sensor failing or coolant temperature sensor or a vacum leak.Garage fitted new cat and lambada as a temperory measure to help pass NCT. should I get them to re-fit original cat and lambada and start on other underlying problem?
