Hi, I have an intermittent EML issue and have read the fault code as;

Misfiring of cylinder 12 P0312

Now I'm certain I don't have 12 cylinders, and I'd rather narrow the issue down before replacing the entire ignition system!

Is there a chance this indicates a faulty knock sensor for cylinders 1 + 2, or any other bright ideas as to likely cause?

The engine starts, idles and revs fine, but when displayed I feel the ecu may be running a mild limp mode map as it seems a little more urgent when its not displaying.

Any pointers appreciated please.

The code P0312 is a generic code, relating to many makes and models. It does indeed refer to cyl 12 missfire.
As you do not have a V12 (is this the 2005 C180??), I suggest you get the codes read with something better, Star perhaps.

Thanks for reply, and yes its the C180k. If it makes any difference the full read out is 'ME SE P2054 Lamp & Store Misfiring of cylinder 12 P0312'.

I'll do as you say and get it read by a tech with star, a little dissapointed that the maxidiag tool I purchased struggles with the basics though!

edit; i'm being dosy of course, the fault code is actually P2054 which narrows it down a little, maxidiag all is forgiven....

As Alex says, best get an indy to check these out with Star.
The point being that many fault codes are generic, but mean different things depending on what year and model tha car is.

What noriceable symptoms does your car suffer from and when?
