This has been bugging me for ages. The engine management light being on, but there are no codes at all.

Any ideas?

Star Diagnosis System. There MUST be reason for EML, and universal readers (MB 'specific' carssofts or autels count here) cannot read all modules or codes. Unless your car is remapped and programmer disabled fault codes (but on same time EML can be disabled too).

My iCarsoft can talk to the individual modules, not just a generic OBD.

However, via the OBD route I pulled a few off.....

P0123 Throttle/Pedal position Sensor/Switch A circuit high

P0183 Fuel temperature sensor A circuit high.

I reset codes, but P0183 came back, but EML is out.

Temp sensor is also limiting power if reading is too high. Sensor is located in hp-pump assembly, next to fuel quantity valve.

Perhaps it is limiting power as sometimes if I put my foot down and expect a kick down, not a lot happens. I ought to get onto this when I can, as the EML will likely return.

all good diagnostics tools can read the engine management system where EML codes are stored - its been a std most adhere to since 1999, a few nasty devices and free phone apps invent data, but Autel kit will have exactly the same info as STAR for the engine

its more likely the car isn't picking up the cause, older cars lacking the ability to give out pertinent data is common. As it is with vehicles not running up to date software.

depending on what was supported you might need to go old school and measure some stuff with a volt or ohm meter, if this is the 2003 year car in your sig then it could be the CPS (crank position sensor, its a ripe age for this to play up)

So, I ordered a sensor and I was going to change it now.

It wasn't until I went to remove the plug that I've found that a wire had broken off the plug, hence the fault code in the first place. There's not enough to join onto. Hmmmm, how do I get out of this one?

Solder a new bit of wire into the end of the connector and then onto the broken wire

I managed to dig a bit of the plug out and did just that. Added some flux to make it flow, let's hope it holds out until I can source a replacement plug to splice in.
