I was very surprised to learn that my old Merc had passed its emmissions test for the MOT at the first attempt, so queried it with the garage. (This mainly because I had adjusted the mix myself to get it to cold start of a frosty morning, and really don't know what I am doing with a screwdriver!)
Anyway, to prove the point to me, today I've been given a print out of the emmissions readings:
CO: 0.23% vol.
HC: 96 ppm vol.
Now, can anyone please
A) Explain these and say if they are reasonable for an old hauler with 133,500 on the clock
and
B) Explain how the heck those readings are possible after a totally ignorant mechanic/vehicle electrician with only an ear to go by instead of the array of technical machinery available to the auto-electrician, had been playing around with a screwdriver? Is the car capable of putting itself right by some bit of ingenious engineering?
Thanks.
