Engine Cooling System

I have run my car , a Mercedes B180 2013 1600 cc petrol engine without the cap of the coolant reservoir.
Display on dashboard indicated in red " stop engine add coolant". I am wondering what damage may have been caused to the cooling system.
Can I continue run the car to the garage for inspection/repair?

Hello and welcome,

Before driving you need to refill the coolant and replace the cap.

Worst case is that the engine has overheated which can warp or crack the head and block.

How far did you drive with the red warning light/message? Providing you pulled over immediately, chances are you just need to refill it with coolant before you drive it to your garage (plain water will be better than nothing until you get the correct anti-freeze/coolant)
