While driving or stationary various dash board lights flash up. BAS, ESP, ABS. The car suffers complete power loss and the engine stalls. It will then start immediately and be ok for anything up to a month and then will suffer another spate of 'stalls'. Nothing shows up on the diagnostic machines it has been connected to.

It is a CLK 320 Petrol, 1998, fully serviced with 59,000 on the clock.

anyone had a similar experience??

Cheers

A crankshaft sensor is possible, but with a crankshaft sensor failure, the car will normally not start after, for a while until it cools down for ten mins. if the car immediately restarts then it maybe something eles.

It will be very hard to pin point as the fault is so intermitant.

A crankshaft sensor is not to expensive so it might be worth a gamble.

Might also be worth checking the battery terminals, we had an Audi that just cut out for no reason, dealer couldnt find a fault and this went on for months, turned out to be the battery terminal.

I had exactly the same problem recently with my 1998 C240 auto. Usually cut out at low revs and was jumpy too, lurching forward and idling strange, but the problem was intermittent. It was put down to an air (Vacuum) leak which my mechanic and his mechanic mate couldn't locate, also a suggestion that it could be electrical.

While it was on a good day and running fine, I part exchanged it with crossed fingers.

So it could be an air leak, it might be electrical.

Treat yourself to an upgrade.
