Engine ECU W210

I have a 1999 w210 240 and also a 2000 W210 280, diags on the 280 show the engine ECU to be faulty, Checked the part number on EPC and the 240 and 280 ECU's are the same, fitted the ECU to the 280 and all dash lights on but no starter motor, nothing.

I am assuming the 280 ECU is coded to the chassis and thus not compatible am I right or have I overlooked something simple.

Hi jib,

The engine control units will be coded to the car they are from. If this doesn't match the EIS wont allow the car to start unfortunately.

Engine ecu is coded to the car as you have said but if you change the ecu and the eis and use the key from the donor vehicle you should be able to run the car for diagnostic purposes. You may have a problem with SRS light on but you can ignor that to diagnose engine problem

As everyone else has stated the ecu's are coded BUT we are able to "DECODE" them for you, we charge a flat rate for this service and when you get it back, it's a simple "Plug 'N Play" process

We also give a 12 months warranty so if it ever happens to lock itself out again (which is of course impossible but we say "IF" anyway).. then we'll take it back in and decode it again lol.

The ecu is coded to a few things in the car such

1) the steering lock on the coloum.
2) Remote Alarm
3) The part where you put the key into that starts the car.



If you have problems, I have a complete ecu with key and all parts required to make it work which was removed from a car with only 50k on the clock.

What do you charge? I bought a 'supposedly' un-coded ECU for the ML270 from Ebay but havent been able to code it via Carsoft (it has the ability to code new ECU modules).

Sorry for hijacking this thread a tad, but thought it may be relevant as picking up an old ECU and having it re-coded is cheaper than buying new.

Thats interesting, during the coding procedure for a ME engine control unit, you are asked to permanently assign the control unit to the vehicle during the procedure. If you choose no then after 50 starts if assigned anyway.

You must have away of breaking this coding.
