I own a 2007 Mercedes W203 C280 4Matic imported from the USA, with an M272 engine. The problem is with engine error codes P0011/P0015/P0025/P0012/P0022/P0301. The timing chain has been checked and all sensors too. One solenoid (camshaft sensor) was leaking(oil), but the cables were replaced and flushed, and the rest were dry. Do you have any ideas on what else to check?

In my car, the timing chain was checked and there are no knocking sounds. The engine runs properly and there is no excessive noise

But the codes are saying there is an issue with the camshaft timing - depends what you want to believe or take a risk with. If you post your location someone should be able to recommend MB indy near you.

It's the balance shaft cogs that wear on the early M272's - it's M271's that have serious simplex chain issues

I live in Poland, and the local mechanics are not able to help me much. They believe it's a faulty engine control unit.So are you certain that it's the balance shaft? I've been driving this Mercedes for 8 months now, constantly with error codes, and I don't see any issue with the engine's performance. I found information that the issue with the balance shaft affects engines with codes from 2729..30 468933. My engine code is 2729..30 563774

At 130K miles I disagree... ;) my M272 is a later one though - I'd not have an M271 one with stop start though

I remember balance shafts on pajero they used to spin bearing cutting off oil n scrapping the motor. Most removed shaft drive and locked shaft. Solved issue not the greatest design and like all engine driven sucks eng bhp.

If you time the engine to 305' on the bottom pulley and then remove the camshaft sensors (all 4) (and not the magnet solenoids) you will see 4 discs which are pulse wheel markings through the hole where the camshaft sensors go.

The pulse wheel markings must be central of the hole. If they aren't, then you have a worn balancer shaft and the timing chain is too slack.

The entire process you described above was checked by a mechanic. He said that everything is in place and the timing chain is not stretched.

Agree with Blobcat, nobody knows the real number of failures believe to be around 5%.
M272 is cracking motor, nice noise when wound up. My car, 87K miles, frequent short trips and very quiet.
Forums are full of bad news.

After the magnets were replaced was the engine adaptions performed on the camshaft position? Can only be done with Xentry.

Only one magnet was replaced, but no adaptations were performed. Could you provide some more context on the topic?

The car starts fine, runs smoothly without any jerking or knocking, doesn't consume oil or smoke. No symptoms indicating that something is wrong. However, the errors continue to appear, and I have absolutely no idea what to do next.

Maybe someone who used to work for mb?
Or if ur keeping to mb you invest in a cloned xentry and become familiar with it. Possible but not easy. I have it. And spend at least an hr or 2 each time trying to recollect how to do what I did before . Its likely someone near you is doing this already, if there are any number of 5 + year old mb in your area.
