Engine missfire

I'm new to this forum but would appreciate any help and advice. I have a CLK cabrio 230K (2001 model). Everything has been great since we had the car but a few days ago a really bad miss-fire happened whilst driving. I turned off th ignition and restarted the car and everything seemed fine again.

I have now noticed that even though the above problem is intermittent, if i accelerate hard, i can feel the car holding back and missing, and it feel as if there is no power there.

My mechanic is stumped. He has changed the plugs and replaced the coil pack and leads, but neither has made any difference.

Any help of advice would be very much appreciated.

You could try the MAF by un plugging it any improvemnet would show that its faulty.

The crankshaft sensor is also a possible.

Hi,

It's worth check the maf sensor for oil contamination, i've had a few kompressor that breathe abit of oil and that can affect the sensor, it can give intermittent plasuable readings. Just an idea!! If it is contaminated trying cleaning it before you replacing it sometimes works but not always

These engines are prone to an engine oil leak inside the camshaft adjuster that then allows oil into the wiring loom an causes problems, most commonly with lamda senser but can also travel to the engine control unit. Remove the silver plastic cover on the very front of the engine. You will see the cam adjuster to the right of you, gold and about 4" in diameter with one black connecter on it. Pull it off and see if there is oil in the connecter - hopefully not! There is a modified wiring part, about 6" long that goes between the adjuster and the loom and is designed to hold oil and not let any through to the main loom, worth buying to stop a potentially £1000 bill in the future ( this goes to anyone else reading this who has a late 111 type engine ( early 203 and late 208. I dont think 202s are effected) If there are no signs of oil, then I'd agree with poss air mass meter. Good luck.

thanks for the advice the car has been put onto a diagnostic machine and no.2 and 4 cylinders were giving low readings any other advice on what may cause this would be great.
