Hello. I just boughr certified pre-owned 2018 E400 coupe last week.
I've been enjoyed and satisfied this car.
But I'm concerning about noise sound from engine. It's not related to acceleration. Once engine operates this noise come from right side(driver side) of engine.
I made an appointment to get inspection at the service center 2 weeks later to get loaner car.
Do I have to avoid driving car until figuring out?

This link is what I recorded the noise.

Can someone give any idea where this noise come from?

Are you referring to the ticking noise in that video? Does it change with engine speed or stay constant?

Sounds daft but try speeding the fan up on the climate control and see if the speed increases,

I’d be inclined to listen to another car with the same engine to see if the noise is a characteristic of that engine, I’m sure the dealer will have another in stock - not sure whether yours is the V6 petrol I think MB brought out an IL6 for 2019

Yes that would be great idea. I will ask to the guy who I bought my car from.

I have a 2014 E400 with the m276 3.0 V6 TT and it doesn’t make that sound. I’m pretty sure they use the same engine.

Is the sound noticeable when the hood is closed?

Yes. I could hear this sound when I closed the hood. But hardly hear inside the car.

If you can hear it when the hood is closed I don’t think it is normal.

As to what it is, it sounds a little bit like an injector but I haven’t come across anything like this before.

I agree with you. At first I thought to ignore this sound, but I concerned that it can be big problem later. I look forward to getting service.

Certainly an odd one as it’s not engine speed related or other ancillaries, I’m afraid it’s going to be guessing unless you can find a long screwdriver and place it on different compound then place your ear on the other end to pinpoint the noise location
