engine noise on A Class 140

Can anyone advise me why when starting the engine on the A140 I get a loud tappets noise which disappears after a couple of seconds. Is this common ? Is it because of the angle of the engine ? :?

Hi there.

I have had two A-classes, one an A140 and the other a A190, they have both done this, I have had different kind of oils from normal to synthetic and still they both do this. Its only the noise of the hydraulic valve adjusters before the oil gets to them..

The problem dissapears after an oil and a filter change nomally..

I had this in a Nissan 200sx - even though dipstick said oil level was OK, If I added a little more say 0.25-0.5 litres, it would go away for good.
