Hi,

Last week I bought my first MB a 1995 C180, had no problemswith the car until today, drove down to birmingham and back approx 180 miles, however when i got home the engine was rattling sounding like something is loose in the cam area, i could understand if one hydraulic lifter had failed, but it sounds like they have all failed, i have checked the oil level and thats ok, and removed oil filler cap to make sure oil is reaching the cam area. it has covered approx 5k since the last oil change according to service record (10/40 semi synthetic was put in), i have searched and read about the cam chain tensioner seizing, and also read about the drive belt tensioner going bad, not checked either yet. The noise rises and falls with the engine revs, and the car pulls ok. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Had a good look today, and the water pump bearings had collapsed, drove it to the garage (appprox 2 miles) and the pump seized 200 yards from his shop, engine temp was just rising above normal as i got it there. Price to fix £70 including parts/labour.

cheers
