Viano 2007 3.0 V6 CDI
Hello. I wish to determine which variant of V6 engine was fitted to my 2007 Viano. The engine is currently being rebuilt and I have bought a replacement harness as there were broken connectors and multiple rejoined wires on the old one which has lead to several problems. I wish to ensure that the engine and harness that I have will work correctly within this vehicle. Where is the engine number located please? 20201203_154410.jpg z⁴I 20201203_154343.jpg 20201203_154239.jpg

Apparently engine is
642990 40 553476
Thanks Andy, however I'm trying to identify the REPLACEMENT engine that the previous owner had some of his Mates throw in after he seized the engine after I bought it, we agreed to have it rebuilt and then 2 months later I discovered that the engine had been changed and I've been having problems ever since!

Thanks, but that is the original engine and I'm trying to identify the replacement. A Mercedes specialist told me that it was a V6 from an E Class. Mercedes were not able to identify it and because of the state of the Wire Loom and the error it was giving, suggested that I replace the Engine, Turbo, Catalyitic Converter, Wiring Loom!!!

Its clearly an OM642 engine. These are from an era where merc used them across a lot of platforms.

Nice pics. is that the old engine.

The recommendation from merc sounds atypical. Do you have a good merc indy nearby.

That's the current engine. The Mechanic is waiting for some special tool to do with keeping the timing before he takes the heads off to have them skimmed. If I understood him correctly one of the head gaskets was leaking! He already had the engine apart earlier this year to replace the original dodgy Mercedes oil coolant seals!!

Another Garage which has a lead Mechanic who worked for Mercedes for 10 years also recommended replacing engine, turbo and cat converter! Apart from the odd leak all was working fine until the oil coolant seaks were replaced and then it started loosing power with the check engine light on. Diagnostics suggested that oil pressure sensors were faulty. All were replaced but no change. Mercedes then said that rejoined wires were causing errors in the signal due to additional resistance but when checked they were fine! Replacement loom on the way as some connectors were dodgy.
