I use Mobil 1 in my car and that is what MB recommend alongside Shell Helix, so that is the oil i will only use id rather pay a bit more for the proper stuff than try another oil that might not give the same protection, but that is just me i suppose

Used shell helix for the last three years. So I think I will stay with that. Oil is very confusing.

Mercedes also sell the right oil for your car in 20L cubes. very good value and it is the same stuff they would be putting in if they serviced it.

So...I'm all for saving a few pence here and there but if you look at cheap oils.....
I can get MB own oil for my CLS63 at around £30 for 5l
Comma Oil is £39 for 5l

If I ever stuck to the 10k oil change that's a difference of 0.1 pence per mile.

In other words buy the best oil you can find or stick with MB own.....it actually makes no £ difference.

MB’s offering is so cheap nowadays there is little point in looking elsewhere. I paid MB Newcastle £57 for 10 litres of oil and genuine filter inc p&p

I use mobil 1 as it has MB spec 229.52 and also VW 507 which is one of the highest specs you can get. Not 1 other oil that has this. If you find, please let me know

Stevegbr You have opened up a can of worms . Each owner will think that the oil he uses is the best . I know what oil that i use,, and will never change the brand .Its served me well for over 20 years,, not only in my W124 but ather cars i have owned . But if your unsure i would visit a good oil brand web site and put your reg number in the box ,,and the it will recomend the right type of oil to use in your car . Or you could visit Mercedes to be 100% sure.
