I'm looking to do an oil change at the weekend on my 2002 C270 CDi. Which oil should I use and do you know of any good value internet suppliers. (the car has been serviced with Mobil 1 from new).

Thanks

I think it will be phsycologicaly most satisfying to stick with the Mobil 1. I have used this in my 2.7cdi van and bought it 8x4ltrs at a time from a company called teeside autotech who have an online shop.

http://www.teessideautotech.co.uk/

the only reservation I had was that on one order they included a carton that had been opened so I rejected it at their expense as at about £30 for 4 ltrs I wasn't prepared to take the slim chance that the contents had been switched(it did seem to have a stronger smell than the others but I couldn't be sure).

Other forum users have suggested Costco as they often have it on special promotion.

Make sure you buy the diesel specific Mobil 1 TD 0W40 and not just plain Mobil 1 which is more suited to petrol engines and may not be upto the job of soot retention in a diesel engine

By the way, it will take about 9-10 litres to do an oil and filter change and fill it to the Max mark so make sure you get enough (i.e 3x4ltr cartons OUCH££££)

I've bought from there once (a few mths ago) and it was £23. I wasn't aware it was a special offer, though.

I've been told (by an oil seller, so who knows if this is true) that the TD stuff and the 'ordinary' stuff are actually exactly the same oil! He referred me to the data sheets, and they are identical, except for the titles.

The C270 capacity is 6.5L.

Thanks for picking my comments apart Rory;)

I have never been in costco personally, It seems a little low brow for a Mercedes Owner!

I have seen the Mobil spec sheets and suspected they were the same as they have similar MB specs/approvals but as the cost is usualy the same I would always go for the 'right' one just in case.

My owners handbook states oil and filter change, 9.0ltrs but that barely gets you above the minimum mark. another litre sees it closer to max which is where I prefer to keep it. I assumed all the cars running the same engine would be identical but perhaps the sumps are different in which case I would guess the ML would be closer to the van set up than the C class?

As I spend quite a lot with "Cosco" I always take the Volvo ( only because you cant put anything into the SL and I don't have any money left over to shop elsewhere) that saves the embarasment and problem solved.

Well, it's aimed at professional people and businesses and it's supposed to be quite posh, but how that squares with stack it high and sell it cheap, I don't know. I've only ever been once, but a new one is opening next month much nearer where I live (which will really thrill Makro, who've also just opened up nearby). Costco is very good for Michelin tyres, but the way.

I've no idea, but the OP asked about C270, which is same as I have.

A Bargain!!!!!!!!

Hi,
National Tyres do a fully synthetic oil - BP VISCO 7000 0W-40. I use it in my S320 CDI as it comes highly reccomended. Buy your oil filter from the dealer, as they don't cost much. Take your car to National Tyres and they will drain the old oil, fit your filter & fill it with nice new 0W-40.

Costs £25.00 - £30.00

Hope it helps,

Bruce.:p :p
